music of the week: casiotone for the painfully alone

June 13th, 2006

these songs are by casiotone for the painfully alone.

from the artists website:
“Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is the musical alias of 28 year old American film school drop-out Owen Ashworth. Ashworth began making music in 1997 after he realized that song-making was a far more cost-effective means of storytelling than film-making.”

this guy seriously is incredible. with just a keyboard and his voice he can convey some pretty heavy emotion. while his songs definitely are somewhat bummed, i feel it still has that, “things aren’t working out so well, but i’m going to keep trying until i get it right” feeling. hopeful, not hopeless.

tonight was a disaster

this is the first song of his that i ever heard. it’s incredible.

the only way to cry
this one is even shorter than the first. that’s one thing i love about this guy. he can get his point across and let it go. he doesn’t need to write a long song when a short one will do.
