we’ve decided to use the moniker “the cedars” when jana and i make music together. here are a few songs that we did for fun. hopefully we’ll have enough to make a record for lily and jackson to have. pretty wishful thinking.
i’m me and you’re you – lyrics– this is a song jana and i did for a forthcoming compilation of childrens music. it’s going to be released in france i think, so i’m not sure how the u.s. availablity will be. this is a song by laurie berkner who sings on one of lily’s favorite shows (or “yo”, as she calls them) jack’s big music show.

spiderman – lyrics – here’s another song that i recorded a few years ago. it’s just been sitting around so i thought i’d put it to good use and throw it up here. another mellow one for you to chill to. my favorite part is the snare drum. there’s some good hits in there.

the best lover she never knew she had – lyrics – an original by one mr steven heller. i recorded this song a long time ago but just stumbled across it again the other day and decided to re-record some of it and mix it down. it’s okay. it’s not going to win any awards any time soon, but i thought we should have some original stuff up here. so here you go.

the plan – lyrics – originally recorded by a band called low. we recorded this for a compilation that our friend scott schultz put out called ‘our turn’. it’s really good. (the compilation, not the song. although i’m pretty fond of that too.)

count to ten – lyrics – this song was originally recorded by a band from olympia, washington called the the softies. we recorded this for a compilation that this girl in japan was doing. it was a cd of just softies covers. i never got this to her though, and last i heard, she still hadn’t put the comp out. i hope she’s not waiting for us. note: at around 2:50 you can hear our dog roxy shaking out.

the end – lyrics – this is a song by the autumns. they’re a band in l.a. that jana and i both like. this was off of their new album and we thought it would be fun to cover it and send it to them. it’s a little different than any of the other songs that we’ve recorded and definitely a bit more ambitious. but i think it turned out pretty good. and i get to sing on this one. you might be able to pick me out singing with jana on the 4th verse. i had to distort my vocals pretty heavily so that it wouldn’t sound like crap.

sleep song – lyrics – this another song by low. and you can all of the members of the heller family on this one. a beautiful jana, a very falsetto steven and a giggly lily. we’re pretty happy about how this one turned out. it was originally recorded by low for the same compilation that our version of the plan (above) appeared on. low didn’t have the solo on the end, but i think it sounds allright.
