a few years ago, some friends and i started a web site called the bendies. it was going to be revolutionary. we were going to each write about whatever we wanted. there would definitely be a mucical tilt to it, but all in all, it would be a place for us to spout off whatever we were thinking. i think they’re called “blogs” now (we were really ahead of our time). well, i wrote one article about a bunch of things that i wanted my future son to learn. i thought that since the future had arrived i would re-post that article. and now that i have a little more insight into the topic, i’ll probably write another article with a new list of things that i want to teach my boy. so, without further adieu…

…and a happy new year!
i hope you enjoy the new design. a new design for a new year.

so, i’m finally making some big changes at heller trading. first of all i’m moving the warehouse. i found a new location just a mile or so from our house. i’m totally stoked about this because it obviously makes the commute pretty easy. also, i’m finally changing the name. heller trading will now be known as…
lakeland furniture warehouse.

lakeland hills is the gigantic community where we live and my warehouse will be right on the street that most everybody drives on to get home. this will give me great exposure. the image above is my new front sign. the logo was designed by one mr. ethan smith. he did a great job and i really like the look of it. it doesn’t scream “furniture!” which is what i like about it. it’s cool and inviting and i think will finally help me get a good design scheme going. anyway, that’s what’s new on the work front.

it seems like jackson has been a bit cholo lately. he’s still a nice kid, but, well… it’s just a bit odd, that’s all.
yeah, it’s wierd.

so, i was finally able to afford one of those really cool laptops with the see-through monitor. they’re awesome! but as you see, they can have a bit of glare.

and if you want one, i can show you how to get one for really cheap…
if you clicked ‘read more’ because you thought i could get you a cheap laptop, then you’re pretty naive. and if you think that they make laptops with see-through monitors, then you’re even more naive. actually i just took a picture behind my laptop and cropped it to the right size and set it as my dektop image. it looks pretty cool, as long as you don’t move your head at all.

but no worries, everything’s just fine. yesterday afternoon she was having some pain and called the doctor and told him just what was going on. so, we went to the hospital and they hooked some stuff up to her and determined that she was having premature labor. they gave her a bunch of water to drink because they thought that she was a little dehydrated. that didn’t help so they gave her some shots and that didn’t do it either. after that they decided to keep give her magnesium sulfate and keep her for 24 hours and see what happens. that seems to have done the trick, but now she’s on bed rest for the next two weeks. we’re both pretty bummed out about that. but, anyway, everything’s just fine and she should be coming home any minute now…
UPDATE:
jana’s home now and everything’s cool. they have her on modified bedrest which basically means that she can walk around and do stuff, just not for too long. she’s only supposed to go up and down the stairs once per day (like that’s going to happen) and try to stay down as much as possible., also, she can’t lift anything over 5 pounds. i have a feeling i’m going to a lot more busy…

we tell a scary story
looking for a way
to terrorize our audience
in a book we’ll write someday.
but then that night i went to bed
and hanging on the wall
a picture that had caught my eye
i could not move at all.
it was david bowie’s face
upon a balded baby’s head –
the most unpleasant thing a girl could see
before she goes to bed!
so i tore that calendar down
and summoned craig back in
to lay beside my troubled soul
and comfort me therein.

I know this isn’t my site, but what happened to all the banter? It always made me feel the the Heller’s weren’t so far away.
weep weep weep.

so, saturday september 3rd, i went to see a band that i’ve been eagerly anticipating for a while now. the retribution gospel choir is a musical surprise comprised of two men from bands that i’ve been heavily into for years. alan sparhawk from low and mark kozelek from red house painters. seperately these respective bands are the embodiment of mellowness, but when their forces are combined, the rockers buried deep within their hearts are set free and unleashed on the crowd.
this new side project is definitely still rough around the edges as they are themselves figuring out just where they want to go, but the spirit of it is there and resonates clearly. they played mostly obscure covers from bands like the rolling stones, and pink floyd and occasionally played a tune from their own catalogs. below are links to photos that i took as well as some videos that i shot. i hope you dig it.

recently, i had a post about a band i like, death cab for cutie. well, a friend of mine, neil, had something to say about it. over the course of 3 days we emailed each other back forth about the subject of music, ‘the man’, and pop culture in general. for your enjoyment, i’m posting all of those emails in their entirety. it’s a pretty interesting read. long, but interesting…
